NUEVAYORKINOS
A LOVE LETTER TO OLD SCHOOL NUEVA YOL.
EST. 2019.
DIGITAL ARCHIVE. oral history. cultural PRESERVATION. MEMORY WORK.
NuevaYorkinos is a digital archive and multimedia project created by Djali Brown-Cepeda, preserving ÑYC Latino and Caribbean culture and history pre-2010, through family histories and visual media. For historically marginalized communities, we view storytelling as an act of decolonization and, in a city whose Black, Brown, and immigrant communities find themselves in a constant battle against displacement, a way to combat gentrification. By curating a robust collection of photos and stories from across the boroughs, our work celebrates the beauty, love, and resilience of immigrant New York.
NuevaYorkinos accepts photos and videos from Caribbean and Latine New Yorkers from across the five boroughs, taken before 2010.
